What works is a quirky imaginative theme. Ideally something which allows flexibility to suit time and budget constraints.
The more ambitious Fancy Dress options only work for evening parties. We think it is something to do with the safety of poor lighting!
Some great ideas we have tried out are:
‘Caribbean Cool – under the coconut tree’
This is, of course, the Party Rover favourite. A perfect theme for a beachy / pool party. Brightly coloured shirts, flowery sarongs, ripped denim, and beach wear. Easily achieved and ideal for the Sunshine Coast.
Suitable for day or night.
‘Millionaires – dress to show how you made your (imaginary) millions’
This one is hilarious once you start to think about it. We have had compensation claimants on crutches, drug dealers, rap stars, pregnant bellies, supermodels and brothel madams turn up to this theme.
Best for night time.
‘Havana Flowers & Fedoras’
Keep it simple and ask guests to simply wear flowers or a hat. Go further and encourage them to build on this theme and dress to match their head gear in some colourful vintage inspired prints.
Suitable for day or night.
‘2020 – a horror theme’
For those with a dark sense of humour and some creativity. Think Plague Doctor, locust, loo roll, 1.5M ruler, orange coloured lunatics, zombies. Really, the list is endless here!
Best for night time.
‘All Things Mexican’
Eternally popular, can be as simple as a poncho & hat or as complex as a chilli, jumping bean or a llama.
Suitable for day or night.
‘Bumpkins, Bogans & Boneheads’
Great for a laugh. Dress general to the theme or choose a real or fictional character. Think Crocodile Dundee, Homer Simpson, Trump, Kath n Kim, Borat, someone with a misspelled tattoo on their forehead, punks, your boss, the party host!
Best for night time.
‘Nautical & Sea’
Most of us would leap at one last chance to dress up as a pirate or mermaid! Your guests will be thrilled with this open-ended theme. Think navy captains, sharks, surfers, rubber duckies and the odd lobster.
Best for night time.
‘Studio 54 Nightclub’
Easy to achieve glam 70’s and disco general dress. Guests can wriggle into spandex, tight pants, platforms and sprinkle on some glitter.
Best for night time.
